- How is Total Cost of Ownership calculated for EVs?
- TCO = on-road price − subsidies + (annual electricity cost + annual service cost) × years. GaadiMate compares this against an equivalent petrol car using current fuel prices and real service cost data.
- Do EVs really cost less than petrol cars over time?
- Yes. Although EVs cost more upfront, electricity costs 60–80% less than petrol per km in India, and annual service costs are 40–60% lower. Over 5 years, most EV buyers save ₹3–8 lakh compared to an equivalent petrol vehicle.
- What government subsidies are included in the TCO calculation?
- GaadiMate includes any active state-level EV subsidy for your vehicle's powertrain and price band. There is currently no national purchase subsidy for private electric cars - FAME II ended in March 2024 and its successor, PM E-DRIVE, doesn't cover cars. State incentives (road tax exemptions, registration waivers, and direct subsidies where available) are what the calculation reflects today.
