Tata Tiago EV (2026 Facelift): India's Most Affordable Electric Hatchback Gets a Major Update

The Tata Tiago EV has been the entry point into EV ownership for Indian buyers since 2022, and it's done so largely unchallenged at its price point. In May 2026, Tata gave it a substantial facelift — sharper design, an upgraded cabin, and meaningfully better safety kit — while keeping it firmly accessible. Here's what's changed and what it offers now.

Price and Positioning

The 2026 Tata Tiago EV facelift is priced from ₹6.99 lakh to ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) across three trim levels — Smart, Pure+, and Creative+ — spanning four variants in total. On-road prices in Delhi start from around ₹7.30 lakh. Tata also offers a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, bringing the upfront cost down to roughly ₹4.69 lakh plus a running charge of ₹2.6 per km — worth noting that under this scheme, buyers still own both the vehicle and the battery from day one, rather than renting the battery separately. It continues to rival the MG Comet EV as the cheapest way into an electric car in India.

Battery, Range and Performance

The Tiago EV continues with two battery pack choices: a 19.2kWh unit producing 61-62hp and 110Nm of torque, and a larger 24kWh pack producing 74-75hp and 114Nm. ARAI-claimed range sits at 226km for the smaller battery and 285km for the larger one, with the 24kWh version capable of 0-60kmph in a brisk 5.7 seconds. Real-world range from owner reports on the 24kWh battery typically lands around 190-200km of daily usable range.

Charging has been meaningfully improved with this update — the new Tiago EV charges roughly 40% faster than before, capable of adding 100km of range in just 18 minutes on a DC fast charger. On a 30kW DC charger, both battery packs can go from 10-80% in 35 minutes, while a 7.2kW AC charger takes about 2.6 hours for the 19.2kWh pack and 3.6 hours for the 24kWh pack from 10-100%.

A Genuinely Fresh Design

Where the outgoing Tiago EV differed from its petrol sibling mainly through badges and a closed-off grille, the 2026 facelift goes considerably further. The front gets a completely reworked, body-coloured closed-off fascia, slimmer and sharper LED headlamps with eyebrow-style LED DRLs, and a redesigned bumper. At the rear — previously the car's weakest design area — Tata has added individual-LED tail lamps connected by a faux red strip for a connected taillamp effect, along with a reshaped boot lid and a new "Tiago.EV" wordmark. The car is offered in six colour options, including two distinctive pastel shades: Dehradun Dew and Sobo Surge.

Dimensions remain 3825mm in length, 1684mm in width, and 1562mm in height, with a 2400mm wheelbase and 240 litres of boot space — there's no frunk.

A Meaningfully Upgraded Cabin

Inside is where the update really shows. The 2026 Tiago EV facelift gets a new dashboard layout, a redesigned two-spoke steering wheel, a standalone digital driver's display, and a rotary gear selector in place of a traditional lever. Feature highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, a 4-speaker sound system, rear AC vents, cruise control, a height-adjustable driver's seat, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual wireless chargers, and a 360-degree camera — a genuinely strong list for a car at this price. Tata's playful touch continues with a squirrel motif on the door pads, glovebox, and centre console.

Reviewers have flagged some inconsistent fit and finish, including noticeable panel gaps, and the front seats missing adjustable headrests — a surprising omission for a 2026 product.

Safety

Safety has taken a major step up with the facelift. The 2026 Tiago EV now comes with six airbags as standard across all variants — a segment-leading addition — along with ABS with EBD, traction control, ESC, a blind spot monitor, ISOFIX child seat anchors, hill hold control, torque vectoring by braking, follow-me-home headlamps, and rain-sensing wipers. The pre-facelift model held a 4-star Global NCAP rating, and given the structurally similar platform, the updated model is expected to perform similarly.

On the Road

The Tiago EV remains, at heart, a city car. Owners consistently highlight its instant torque and eager acceleration off the line, especially in Sport mode, along with light steering that makes it easy to park on narrow streets. Running costs are a genuine highlight too — home charging typically works out to around ₹1 per km, making it one of the cheapest cars to run daily in India.

Who Should Consider the Tiago EV?

The 2026 Tiago EV facelift suits:

  • First-time EV buyers who want the lowest possible entry cost into electric ownership
  • City commuters who mostly drive short daily distances rather than long highway runs
  • Buyers who want a genuinely refreshed design and feature set without stepping up in price bracket

With sharper looks, faster charging, and a properly upgraded safety and features package, the 2026 Tiago EV facelift makes a stronger case than ever for buyers who want an affordable, no-fuss way into EV ownership — even if a few fit-and-finish niggles remain.

Prices and specifications mentioned are ex-showroom figures and subject to change without prior notice. Check with your nearest Tata Motors dealership for current on-road pricing and the latest variant details.
