Tata Tigor EV: A Practical, No-Nonsense Electric Sedan

Not every EV needs to chase futuristic looks or flashy tech to make sense. The Tata Tigor EV takes the opposite approach — a familiar compact sedan body, a straightforward feature set, and a focus on being an easy, dependable daily driver. Here's what it offers in 2026.

Price and Positioning

The Tata Tigor EV is priced from around ₹12.49 lakh to ₹13.75 lakh (ex-showroom) across its four variants — XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Lux. On-road prices in Delhi range roughly between ₹13.10 lakh and ₹14.58 lakh. It occupies a fairly unique spot in the market: there's no direct rival to a compact electric sedan at this price, though it's sometimes cross-shopped against the Citroen eC3 or considered alongside the MG Comet EV for buyers wanting a different body style.

Battery, Range and Performance

Built on Tata's Ziptron EV architecture, the Tigor EV uses a 26kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired with a front-axle-mounted electric motor producing 73-75PS (roughly 74bhp) and 170Nm of torque. Tata claims an ARAI-certified range of 315km, though real-world testing by reviewers typically shows figures between 170-224km depending on driving conditions — city driving benefits noticeably from regenerative braking, while sustained highway speeds bring the range down further.

Charging is straightforward: a full charge on a 3.3kW charger takes around 9 hours 24 minutes from 0-100%, making it best suited to overnight home charging rather than quick top-ups.

Familiar, Understated Design

The Tigor EV doesn't try to reinvent itself visually — it retains the standard Tigor's compact sedan silhouette, with EV-specific touches like a closed-off grille, blue accent highlights around the badging, fog lamps, and rear bumper, along with aerodynamic wheel covers over 14-inch steel wheels. Notably, Tata hasn't updated the Tigor EV's exterior in line with the petrol Tigor's more recent facelift, so it still runs halogen projector headlights rather than LEDs.

Dimensions come in at 3993mm in length, 1677mm in width, and 1532mm in height, with a 2450mm wheelbase. Boot space is rated at 316 litres — slightly compromised by battery packaging, but still practical for daily use.

A Simple, Familiar Cabin

Inside, the Tigor EV mirrors the petrol version's layout closely, with a dual-tone grey and black theme lifted by blue accents around the AC vents and instrument cluster, plus a rotary dial in place of a traditional gear lever. Features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, a cooled glovebox, and cruise control. Higher variants add an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system — a genuinely pleasant surprise at this price point. Reviewers do note the touchscreen feels dated, with slower response times compared to newer Tata EVs, and some feature omissions like alloy wheels and rear AC vents stand out as missed opportunities.

Safety

The Tigor EV was the first Tata EV crash-tested by Global NCAP, back in 2021, where it earned a 4-star safety rating. Standard safety kit includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, corner stability control, a rear parking camera, TPMS, and a rear defogger — a solid safety package for a compact sedan in this segment.

On the Road

The Tigor EV's driving character is built entirely around city use. Instant torque makes it responsive at low speeds and easy for quick overtakes in traffic, the light steering keeps daily driving relaxed, and the ride quality has been praised for soaking up bumps and speed breakers comfortably. It isn't designed to be engaging or quick — it's designed to be easy to live with.

Who Should Consider the Tigor EV?

The Tigor EV suits buyers who:

  • Want a compact electric sedan rather than a hatchback or SUV body style
  • Prioritise a familiar, practical driving experience over cutting-edge tech or design
  • Are first-time EV buyers looking for an accessible, low-maintenance way to make the switch

It won't win any awards for innovation, and its feature set shows its age next to newer Tata EVs like the Curvv or Nexon. But for buyers who want a sensible, no-drama electric sedan for city commuting, the Tigor EV remains a straightforward, dependable option — and one of the few electric sedans available in India at all.

Prices and specifications mentioned are ex-showroom figures and subject to change without prior notice. Check with your nearest Tata Motors dealership for current on-road pricing and the latest variant details.
